South AFRICA's Boeke Prize

Add to my lists | Print this list

The Boeke Prize celebrates accessible, original, compelling good reads. The Boeke Prize was set up in 1995. It set out to be a light-hearted dig at the hallowed British Man Booker Prize, which had often in the past been criticised for its selection of highbrow literature.

"With the Boeke Prize, we wanted to illustrate that well-written novels could be riveting reads and highly accessible to all readers. The Boeke nominees meet the criteria of being finely written, absolute page-turners," says Jill van Zyl, a director of Exclusive Books.
