Genie Awards for Best Motion Picture
Given annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television to "honour outstanding achievements; to heighten public awareness and increase audience attendance and appreciation of Canadian film…and to encourage the highest standards of film and television production in Canada."
Note: There were no 1995 Genie Awards, but 2 were held in 1996. The award is usually given for movies made in the previous year (so the 2006 award was given in 2007.)
Before 1980 the Genie Awards were known as the Canadian Film Awards. (In some of the early years, no feature film was given an award, so those years are not included.)
