liam24's "Highly over-rated movies that are actually garbage"

Add to my lists | Print this list

These are movies that have generally received high praise. Because of that I was eager to watch them, only to be severely let down.

The Queen – A Lifetime Channel movie brought to the big screen
Fritz the Cat – Uninteresting, even in the context of the era it was made
MASH – total crap – bad story, bad cinematography, bad acting, anachronistic
Titanic – big budget formula script
Easy Rider – Just because it didn’t resemble anything else at the time doesn’t mean it’s good
28 Days Later – Ho-hum zombie flick that offers nothing new except the way people became zombies.
Branded to Kill – They say it is the anti-Yakuza movie Yakuza movie. No, it is just a poorly made Yakuza movie. The studio was right to fire the director for making this.
Once Upon a Time in America – A long film during which I was completely aware that I was watching a movie, and a badly directed and scripted one at that.
Naqoyqatsi – I love Koyaanisqatsi, but this one is muddled, heavy-handed, and boring. Koyaanisqatsi kept me glued in place, this kept me looking at my watch.
Goodbye Dragon Inn – This is without a doubt the worst Chinese film I have ever seen. So slow paced that what little dialog there is seems like action scenes. There are 5 minute scenes of nothing – for instance a long pointless shot of the empty theater the movie revolves around, a long scene of guys taking a leak in the men’s room, the woman employee shuffling along empty corridors doing mundane tasks. I challenge anyone to convince me this is a work of genius that so many reviewers claimed it was. I think they assumed a Chinese movie in international release has to be a deep and profound film, and if they admit they don’t get it, they will come across as looking stupid to their peers.
On Golden Pond – Katherine Hepburn is a terrible actress, and Henry Fonda is wasted in this film
The Big Chill – a shallow film pretending to be deep
I’m Not There – ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Stand By Me – Not necessarily a terrible movie, but TV movie of the week quality
Scarface – Overacted, Al Pacino is a caricature, not a character
The Deer Hunter – I used to like this movie until I went in the Army and realized what bullshit it was.
