The World Library: The 100 best books of all time as compiled by Boken magazineThis list was compiled by votes from Swedish experts and was actually published around 1985, but a photocopy of it has been lying around in my office ever since. Thought I’d share it, since its significance for upper secondary school students in Sweden was massive at the time. The Swedish magazine "Boken" (The Book) has been around for some 20 years claiming to be the biggest Nordic literary magazine. The fact that the magazine is defunct just one year after its editor in chief passed away in 2008 says something about the literary awareness in Sweden … I tried to squeeze in as many English translations I could, though the list is heavily biased towards Swedish literature.
