Shannon's "Best Fiction of 2000-2009"
These are the best fictional books, of all genres, that I have read and were published in the first decade of the 21st century. I gave these books 4 or 5 stars. See also Best Nonfiction of 2000-2009: http://www.listsofbests.com/list/46728.
Note: I do not distinguish between literary or mainstream fiction and genre fiction as I did in my best of 20th century lists, because I think this is when the lines between genre and mainstream first become wonderfully blurred. Clearly, Stephen King and Neil Gaiman are genre writers, but where would you put Margaret Atwood, Michael Chabon, David Mitchell or Cormac McCarthy? Better to call it all fiction, and read it all.
