In the 1920’s this award began as an "Interior Design" award.

In 1940 it was divided into seperate awards for Black & White and Color.

In 1947 the name was changed to "Art Direction – Set Direction" and later shortened.

In 1957 it became a single award.

In 1959 it was divided into seperate awards again.

In 1967 it beame a single award again.
