Top 50 Greatest Jewish Movies from Kathryn Bernheimer's book
In 1998, Kathryn Bernheimer’s book, "The 50 Greatest Jewish Movies: A Critic’s Ranking of the Very Best," received storngly mixed reviews for what she included and what she didn’t. She defined a ‘Jewish’ film as: "What is a Jewish movie? For the purposes of this book, I define it as a film that examines an aspect of the Jewish experience and features at least one clearly defined Jewish central character."
While missing any recent films, her list still is a good snapshot of the variety of Jewish movies out there and the ever-increasing quality and number of them in recent years.
NOTE: In the book there is a tie for 10th place between "Ben-Hur" and "The Ten Commandments." That’s why there are 51 entries on this list.
