newdreamer22's "43 Famous People I'd Like to Have at a Dinner Party"

Add to my lists | Print this list

What is that old question that "Dinner for Five" is based on? If you could have any 3 famous people, living or not, at a dinner party who would you invite? It’s usually some permutation of that. This is my "43 Things" list of people that I think would make interesting guests, alone or in various combinations. No particular order…

Another Switch — 5 years ago

I’m taking Doris Day off the list (she’s been rather reclusive in her old age… maybe she’d be reluctant to make fascinating dinner conversation?) in favor of Roddy McDowall. I realized while watching “Lord Love a Duck” that I absolutely love his voice and the way he uses it. He had a long career, many friends, and few enemies (according to the imdb) so he’d probably have good conversation and charming diplomacy.

Updates — 5 years ago

Two changes:

I dropped Robert Conrad for Groucho Marx. Although I hate losing a manly man off the list, I am a sucker for humor, and Groucho must have great stories about his early career.

I dropped Tyra Banks in favor of Ricardo Montalban. I hate to lose a woman off the list, but I love the way he says “Corinthian Leather” and again, he must have wonderful stories.

So There It Is! — 5 years ago

I finally got the list up to 43, after more than a year! I had hoped it would be more integrated… only a little more than a quarter are female, about the same number are dead, slightly fewer are of color, and only 5 are openly non-hetero? Most are known primarily from the entertainment industry. I do think most would have interesting conversation, or at least humor, to bring to the table…
