fish_beauty's "Fishb - Films/TV for teaching my ASD kid about social interaction & communication""
Kids on the autism spectrum can’t get enough of models that they can study to learn interpersonal communication. Contrary to the conventional wisdom that kids sit in front of the television to much, ASD kids can benefit greatly from observing characters engaging in increasingly complex actions with one another.
Silent movies are a great place to start, with the slower pace, and sometimes-exaggerated facial expressions. Also, those intertitles give their brains some reading exercise.
Also, family-oriented sitcoms with their familiar premises and weekly variations on that premise are wonderful tools for leading the ASD kid to the just noticeable difference zone of human interaction.
This list will be a work in progress. My pace of fleshing it out may be very slow.
