Wine Varietals

Add to my lists | Print this list

Beyond the usual cab and chardonnay, there are numerous grapes from which wines (incl. sparkling and fortified) are made. Using Oz Clarke’s wonderful Encyclopedia of Grapes as a guide, this list may turn out to be quite lengthy. That said, I will start with the varietals I have knowingly consumed, either solo or as a blend. Many varietals go by more than one name (i.e. Grenache, Garnacha, etc.), so I will try to be careful and not duplicate – however feel free to edit in case I mess up. For now, cheers!

Removed “Monstrell”, which is spelled as “Monastrell” and is the Spanish name for the “Mourvedre” varietal (Australians and Californians call it Mataro (sometimes))

Interesting to find this list... — 5 years ago

Since I just joined corkd.com. If you haven’t heard of it, you might want to check it out.

Great idea, what would all these various other lists be without a list for wine too? Thanks for loading a complete A-Z list.

5rugi5, what pictures do you think are best to add; grapes or labels or bottles?

Are some of my favourites like “Shiraz”, “Baronne” VARIETAL and suitable in the list or are those sub-classes?

I hope it developes well (matures?)
