Ah-ha A Great List to Work On! — 2 years ago

I just found this list today.

I added it as an incentive, to hopefully complete one day. Though it rather goes with any “travel” list most assuredly, as the bulk are in European cities.

But, are there any real rules to what makes something a “famous work of art?” I am sure there are other great works not on the list, but what is “famous” may be opinion to some individuals. And there are few sculpture and no architectural works listed, mostly paintings.

So if I, or anyone, adds something, hope there are not a lot of “snobbier than thou” comments…LOL

I will probably only be able to get to ones that are in American museums, for at least a while.

Its a good list. There are various versions of The Kiss, of course, in different locations.

I was under the impression that The Dance was in St Petersburg? That is the version, anyway, that I have seen and I therefore tick.

The only reservations I have are that I’d add more late Medaeval/Renaissace art, dropping The Lady of Shalott in favour of Duccio’s Maesta, or one of the Giotto Murals, and the Rivera in favour of the Raphael’s Athens mural in Rome.

I’d also consider getting rid of Kahlo, who isn’t really that good, in favour of Turner or Edvard Munch.

But of course, the fun of these lists les partly in their subjectivity.
