SPEX- the best 100 Lp's from the last century
created from the spex magazine – issued December 1999/January 2000.
personal notes: strange, that you will not find a JOY DIVISION, THE FALL or a GANG OF 4 album to name a few.
more strange, that there is no PRINCE album to find.
perhaps NOT strange, that you will not find essential albums from ROLLING STONES, DOORS, THE WHO, THE KINKS, PINK FLOYD, CAN and so on, because this was not quite the SPEX style at that time and they wanted to be different as the ROLLING STONE magzine.
So don’t take this list too serious, BUT: you will find indeed some extraordinary albums which you would not find in any other lists like Number 89 (because this band came from cologne AS the magazine too) or number 75, 76, 72, 54, 51 to name a few.
Also remember: Grunch was not far away at that time and also HIP HOP. ELECTRO/TECHNO/HOUSE was hip.
This list is history and at that time the contributers wanted to have a big discussion later on.
