inkdrinker's "Books About Books"

Add to my lists | Print this list

This list is one I’ve always wanted to find, but I’ve never been able to find a really extensive list of this sort. I love books about books. It doesn’t matter if the books are fiction or nonfiction. I find books about reading, writing, collecting, libraries, books as a physical object, the history of books, and various other aspects of texts absolutly fasinating.

I will be adding to this list over time, because I’ve found (through loads of personal research) a ridiculous number of these sorts of books.

Housekeeping vs. the Dirt — 4 years ago

Love this list! Housekeeping vs. the Dirt by Nick Hornby is the sequel to The Polysyllabic Spree and just as good, if not better. It has a wonderful introduction about reading. Just thought you might like to add it to the list.

Nice list! — 5 years ago

Here are some other recommendations:

The book thief – Markus Zusak

The hours – Michael Cunningham

Reading like a writer – Francine Prose

Great List! — 5 years ago

How about Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress (or did I miss it?)

Library Lion — 6 years ago

really cute kids book

Suggestion — 6 years ago

LOVE this list – thanks for all the work! How about Sophie’s Choice?

Another one — 6 years ago

Here’s another book that defenitely deserves to be on this list: The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde.

You missed a couple — 6 years ago

The World According to Garp, by John Irving. Terrific.

The Information, by Martin Amis, about a novel so bad it provokes spontaneous nosebleeds.

Shelf Monkey, by Corey Redekop. Ok, this hasn’t been released yet, but why should I be above a certain amount of shameless self-promotion? It is about books, I assure you.

The Name of the Rose, by Umberto Eco.

One more for you — 6 years ago

Murder at the ABA by Isaac Asimov. A cool little non-scifi book.
