Crouching Tiger? — 3 years ago

I like the choices for the top four, but why are there so many mediocrities sprinkled throughout, and yet Crouching Tiger, clearly one of the very best of the decade, is not even on the list? Did they, like film school neophytes, eschew Crouching Tiger because of its box-office popularity, but fall for the just-FEEL-as-if-you’re-saying-something-even-if-you’re-actually-entirely-vapid antics of films like A History of Violence and several others on the list I could name?
