IMDb's "Modern Top 250"
There are 3 complaints about the imdb I always hear:
1. Too many old movies
2. Not enough votes, it shouldn’t count
3. Brand new movies are rated too high.
This list uses the same algorithm on imdb, (v/(v+m)r+(m/v+m)x, but with the following:
1. This list is 1991-2010 (a 20 year range)
2. The "x" has been changed from 3000 to 5000 minimum votes
3. All 2011 movies have been removed for overranking
4. The average is only across the 3,453 films in the date range meeting the 5000 votes, not the "whole imdb report" changing the mean to 6.4 instead of 6.9
I will update this list next year with 1992-2011 after 2011 movies have a year to settle.
Only problem is I can’t mimic the "regular voters" like imdb does, meaning some strange foreign films sneak in.
